Evolving with Maximo Enterprise Asset Management – Discover IBM’s new Maximo EAM Offerings and Roadmap
We’ve just jumped off the latest IBM webinar for Maximo: ‘Evolving with Maximo Enterprise Asset Management – Discover IBM’s new Maximo EAM Offerings and Roadmap’. Kim and Lisa covered updates to EAM that will improve your uptime and asset maintenance practices, increase first time fix rates, and enhance reliability and performance of your assets.
It was great to see that the core Maximo portfolio continues to expand, with lots of investment and innovation. IBM R&D never disappoint and invest billions of dollars into the latest and greatest technology – which is brought back into Maximo! There’s never been a better time for EAM and the journey ahead is even more exciting for asset managers.
The 3 streams that IBM are focussing on for 2020:
Enterprise Asset Management (EAM)
The last 2 Maximo releases were 7.6.1 in July 2018 and 184.108.40.206 in May 2019. You can review the functionality in blogs here and here.
Highlights include: improving UX, work centers, an embedded scripting editor tool, the accumulation of all past Feature Packs, new look and feel, Cognos 11 Entitlement, new technology – AI, AR, MAHI, worker safety and token licensing.
Maximo modernisation will continue to focus on user experience and intuitive tools. IBM has listened to its customers and plans to make the role-based Work Centers more configurable for next year.
Mobility is a critical component of EAM and remains a key investment area with new solutions such as Equipment Maintenance Assistant (EMA) and Watson Assistant. There is also a new Anywhere add on for Augmented Collaboration. Augmented Reality (AR) will enable comms between a technician and an expert. The expert will be able to provide guidance and videos on how to fix issues which can also be shared as part of the job plan and saved for training sessions.
IBM continue to listen to feedback about the deployment and installation of Anywhere and are simplifying it by removing the MobileFirst dependency.
A new Maximo for Civil Infrastructure industry solution is coming out in 2020, focusing on extending the life of highways, bridges, tunnels and utilities with digital monitoring for early warning signs, situational awareness, geospatial management and dashboards.
MRO Inventory Optimization (MRO IO)
IBM have a new acquisition for optimizing spare parts: MRO Inventory Optimization. This solution could enable huge reductions in costs, asset downtime and increased service levels by giving customers better inventory control.

Asset Performance Management (APM)
The ‘Maximo’ brand is also moving towards Asset Performance Management (APM) as businesses begin to look to future-proof their assets and optimize performance through prediction and prescriptive analytics. Businesses can begin listening to the health of their assets with Maximo Asset Health Insights (MAHI), Predictive Maintenance Insights and APM for Energy & Utilities.
Safety is also very key for clients, so IBM have introduced an integrated IoT Worker Insights solution with Maximo HSE/Oil & Gas. We believe this will be very interesting to our client base. This fully managed service collects data from sensors such as wearable devices and environmental sensors to detect risks. It can detect falls, fatigue, heat exposure, and many others potential hazards. After a potential hazard is detected by IoT Worker Insights, Maximo is able to handle and address this hazard by starting the Incident Management process.
