Introduction to the Work Execution Work Center

Work Execution Work Center

This blog will provide a quick overview and use case of the Work Execution Inventory Work Center. This is part of a series of blogs looking at Work Center functionality and our experience in implementing them. 

Maximo Work Centers are visually dynamic dashboards that enable users to extract data out of existing Maximo applications. They are easy to use and have been designed with an improved user interface that works seamlessly across multiple platforms such as desktops and mobile devices. With the Work Execution Work Center, maintenance technicians can manage the work orders they own on a computer or their mobile device.

The Work Execution Work Center has multiple tabs that pull-out data based on queries related to due dates such as Overdue, Today, Tomorrow, Next 3-5 Days, Completed, and All. The work orders are then displayed based on priority, scheduled start date, status and work order.

When you open a work order card, you can view and review the most essential information about the work that you own.  The information and tasks are organized in several different tabs to effectively manage your work such as Details, Inspections, Plans, Comments, and Attachments.

The Details tab can be used to add or view primary information about the work order that includes status, priority, asset information, location, failures, work type, job plan, service address and site. It also displays scheduling information, asset meter reading, related records such as follow up work, responsibilities and open work order tracking.

The Maintenance Technician could easily click on Start to begin work and the work order status will change accordingly. There’s a built-in functionality to track the time spent on resolving the issue (Actual Work Time), Travel Time or time spent on waiting for materials. The timer can be stopped and restarted, as required.  As a natural next step, the Work Center allows you to report work using the Report Work action. You could report information such as the actual time spent on completing the work, items and materials used, tools used and failure information. See screenshot below.

The Inspections tab can be used to view and complete inspections that are related to this work order.

The Plans tab is used to review work plans, that include tasks, items and materials and tools required to complete the work.


The Comments tab is used by the technician and supervisor to easily communicate about the work. The comment can also be made viewable to the requester of the service request, if applicable. The Attachments tab can be used to add attachments related to the work as pictures and or other files.

Upon completion of your work, you could change the status of the work order to “Completed” and the Completed work orders will be reviewed and closed by the Supervisor.
