Manage Inventory Work Center
This blog will provide a quick overview and use case of the Maximo Manage Inventory Work Center. This is part of a series of blogs looking at Work Center functionality and our experience in implementing them.
The Manage Inventory Work Center is used to reserve and issue items, manage storerooms, and manage items. This is an important work center loaded with a lot of functionality that allows you to administer item balances and carrying costs to ensure timely availability of required items. Let’s look at the three main functions of this Work Center in a bit more detail.
Reservations
The Reservations tab has two sub-tabs: Reservations and Issued Items.
The Reservations sub-tab is used to view and manage reservations to maintain sufficient balances in a storeroom. Inventory can be automatically reserved when materials are specified on approved work orders or tasks. Depending on your security options, you have access to a few different actions such as the ability to issue, transfer or delete reserved items individually or in batches, edit required dates, type and quantities.
The Issued Items sub-tab gives you the ability to view issued items as well as to return a previously issued item.
Storerooms
In the Storerooms tab, each storeroom is displayed as a card with a variety of built-in functions.
- You can add a new storeroom and set its Ship to address.
- When you click on a storeroom card, you can view the items and their balances in the Balances tab.
- When you click on each item on the list, a set of actions will be displayed which allows you to edit the storeroom item, set reorder rules or view the rotating assets that make up the storeroom balance.
- On the Counts tab, you can record physical counts of items that you select. You can sort the table by multiple column headers, including the due date for the count.
All Items
The All Items tab displays a list view similar to the Item Master where you can add or import a set of items or view the details of an existing item. Items can then be added to storerooms and managed as inventory.
You have the ability to set an image for the item, set the order and issue units and a conversion between the two, define an item as a rotating item or an item that will maintain balances at the lot level. You can also add other image files as attachments, set a default vendor, or set the commodity group and code.
I hope this gave you a quick visual overview of the functional capabilities of the Manage Inventory Work Center. Next week we’ll look in to the Execution Work Center- stay tuned!
