Mobility is a trending word nowadays. When mobility is associated with Maximo Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) it adds business value, and ease of use in asset intensive industries. There are several mobility platforms that currently integrate into Maximo such as DataSplice and IBM Maximo Anywhere.
In this blog, I will focus on DataSplice and my implementation experience which is commonly being used by clients to meet their EAM mobility needs.
DataSplice provides a user friendly administration tool which enables the user to customise default features and implement new functionalities through its various configurations.

When DataSplice is installed, it creates a folder in the chosen install directory.
Within the installed directory, we see three folders. The ‘Clients’ folder which contains environment details such as Desktop, Mobile and Standalone. The ‘Java’ folder keeps the Java Run Time Environment (JRE) and the ‘Server’ folder contains server storage details, resources, dlls, logs etc.

Plugins
DataSplice has several plugins with enhanced functionality such as display modes, events, functions, data sources, security accounts, DataSplice views, field validation styles etc.
The most common plugins are the following;
- CampMaster Plugin: This plug in is used for database forms, and enables authorisation of database tables in DataSplice to track custom information that is not currently handled by an existing system.
- DB Plugin: used for database connection strings
- File Storage Plugin: used for doclinks configuration
- GIS Plugin: used for location or map configuration
- Maximo Plugin: used for Maximo and RMI connection strings

Views
DataSplice pages are called ‘views’ which can be found under Server-> Storage -> Views directory:

DataSplice has its own default Maximo views which are aligned with Maximo functionality. All of the views are integrated with the Maximo database and update Maximo at the same time. This is an example of the Maximo Work Orders views.

Besides Maximo Views, DataSplice has its own views, options and permissions.
Views are generally XML files which are updated every time the DataSplice Admin Client is configured.

DataSplice License
Licensing is an important part of the DataSplice product. It governs its views and security roles. A DataSplice license is required and needs to be installed within the DataSplice Client page. To gain access to your License Key you must provide DataSplice Support with your server key which can be found in the DataSplice Server.
You can install the license directly through the DataSplice Administration Client – here is the process to follow.

Under the Actions menu, you can select ‘Install License’. Here your DataSplice licecnse can be pasted.

DocLinks Configuration
To configure DataSplice with DocLinks a ‘File Storage Plugin’ is required.
From the DataSplice Client a DocLinks path needs to be specified in the following way to enable
the plugin:
