The Year of the MUG!

Almost two years ago, I wrote an article about the “Importance of MUGS (Maximo User Groups)” and it is especially satisfying to see that literally thousands of Maximo Users around the world have embraced that culture of growth, sharing, networking and learning from each other.
If anything, 2018 could be called “The year of the MUG” with record setting attendance at every MUG you can imagine. CanMUG (Canadian Maximo User Group) had continued growth at each of its three meetings, with all time high levels of end user participation. The first ever ASIA Maximo User Group was held in April 2018 and is scheduled to hold a second meeting this November. The MaxTECH (Maximo Technical User Group) appeared on the scene and in its first year held five user meetings globally and attracted participation of close to 250 Maximo Technical folks!
The largest of all Maximo Group meetings turned out to be Reliability Web’s MaximoWorld, a very well attended, well run conference with well over 1,000 participants. Users, senior leadership, sponsors and IBM have all embraced the user group concept and are fully committed to participating in these events. Participation makes Maximo better! It makes your companies investment in Enterprise Asset Management better! Plus, it makes the people from all walks of life that attend these user groups better!
I have seen several articles and posts on Twitter, LinkedIn and other sites describing the “top reasons to attend such and such a Maximo User Group” and I have to say that after having attended many group meetings in the past several years, that every word written in this regard is absolutely true.

  • Learn from each other
  • Speak to the experts
  • Get out of the office and see how others have solved your problems already
  • Become an expert
  • Tell your story
  • Bring back knowledge to your company that can help improve the benefit of Maximo

So, here’s to 2018 “The Year of the MUG” and to the coming year 2019 “The Year of Maximo” where we will see more record-breaking growth at every MUG, the unification of Technical, Business and User Maximo groups, increased partner sponsorship to the communities, and the realization of the fact that our community is global, unique and collaborative. If you have not already done so, seek out your local Maximo User Group, attend, participate and improve.
