If your business is based in the European Union (EU) or you have customers or contacts in the EU, then you have probably heard of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by now. For those who haven’t, the GDPR is an EU privacy law that will go into effect in May 2018. The GDPR seeks to create a harmonized data protection law framework across the EU and aims to give citizens back the control of their personal data, whilst imposing strict rules on those hosting and ‘processing’ this data, anywhere in the world.
BPD Zenith is preparing to comply with GDPR, both for our internal processes and for our commercial offerings. We recognize that our customers will rely on us to provide transparency and trust, as well as technical assistance to achieve GDPR compliance within their own business.
What about GDPR and IBM Maximo?
IBM currently complies with privacy laws around the world and is also preparing for GDPR readiness. The Maximo development team spend a lot of time developing the product to meet stringent industry standards and support new legislation, and is currently undergoing internal design validations.
IBM will be releasing some tools in Q2 2018 to ensure your Maximo system is being used in a compliant way. Scripts will indicate what fields/data in Maximo would be considered personal information, along with an action in the Person application to remove such data for an individual if required.
The idea is to allow it to be applied to versions starting at 7.5 and up. From there, it will go through addition refinements in the process of becoming part of 7.6.1. Watch this space for more information – official IBM documentation will be released in the near future!
