For those customers still using Maximo® version 4 there are some significant benefits of upgrading to the newer versions. It is important to note that IBM no longer offers support for version 4, further details can be found here. Maximo® 4.1.1 is client server based, hard-coded and relies heavily on client installations, configuration and network bandwidth. This gives a system with very limited potential for growth. The newer Maximo® version is an n-tier JAVA extendable language application that is entirely web-based and requires no client configuration. This system has unlimited growth potential and can run in many bandwidth challenged environments.
The newer version of Maximo® allows greater configuration without the need for customisation. The differences between the versions can be viewed here and a document showing what's new in Version 7.1 can be viewed here. Both links are also available on the quick links section at the top of the page.
